An American weekly magazine founded in 1925 by Harold Ross (1892–1951). Although famed for its humour it has also published distinguished articles of reportage, such as, notably, ‘Hiroshima’ by John Hersey (1914– ), which occupied an entire issue in 1946. Writers and cartoonists associated with the magazine include Thurber, O. Nash, Charles Addams, Saul Steinberg, O'Hara, S. J. Perelman (1904–79), and Updike.
