In Buddhism, mental and emotional factors which hinder the acquisition of knowledge and insight. There are five: (i) sensuous desire (kāmacchanda);(ii) anger (vyācada);(iii) sloth and torpor (thīna-middha);(iv) excitability and anxiety (uddhacca-kukkucca); (v) doubt (vicikicchā).
