A type of nylon used for the Mercury and Gemini spacesuits. Created by the DuPont company in 1963, it has a high temperature resistance. The Apollo 7 astronauts, the first crew to orbit the Moon, wore suits inside the spacecraft with an inner layer of Nomex cloth. The material was also used with cotton for the inflight clothing of space shuttle crew members.
