Freed in 1586 from apprenticeship in London, Norton began trading in Edinburgh. Returning to London in 1594, he retained business interests in Scotland, became a leading member of the Stationers’ Company, and achieved considerable wealth by importing books and publishing in several languages with his partner, John Bill.
