Damage to the cartilage, bone, or soft tissues in the nose. Nose fractures are the most common facial injuries sustained in sport. Although they are not normally dangerous, they can he disfiguring and athletes should seek medical advice. Nose bleeding, nasal airway obstruction, and a nasal deformity are the most common symptoms of a nasal fracture. The most important concern in primary treatment is to ensure an airway is open and breathing is not restricted. Then, the bleeding should he controlled (see nose bleed), and the nose protected from further injury, while medical assistance is acquired. See also pugilist's nose.
