Quick Reference

A modern edition by Kathleen Coburn (1905–91) of the notebooks and journals of S. T. Coleridge of which four volumes of separate Text and Notes, covering 1794–1826, have been published (1956– ); they supersede E. H. Coleridge's 1895 Anima Poetae. They consist of Coleridge's sometimes daily comments on his life, travels, writing, and dreams: full of his anxiety and self‐consciousness, they throw remarkable light on the raw materials of his thought and art, as well as providing valuable biographical insights.

Subjects: Literature.
