A group of four Canadian abstract painters formed in Montreal in 1959; they succeeded Les Plasticiens as leaders of the avant-garde and were the dominant force on the city's art scene during the 1960s. The members were Jean Goguen (1928–89), Denis Juneau (1925– ), Guido Molinari, and Claude Tousignant. They painted large, completely abstract canvases, sometimes Hard-Edge and verging on Op art.
