Quick Reference

The number 666 (or, according to some MSS, 616) in Rev. 13: 18. As in both Greek and Hebrew each letter of the alphabet represented a figure as well as a letter, every name could be represented by a number corresponding to the sum of its letters. Many explanations have been given of the cryptogram. The most probable is that ‘Nero Caesar’ is intended.
