A key component of the Common Object Request Broker Architecture more commonly known as CORBA. This is a distributed object technology which enables objects resident on a number of physically remote computers to interact with each other via messages. An object request broker is a program which sits in the middle of these objects directing messages to their destination along with any replies from objects. Object request brokers also implement a name service so that distributed objects can be identified; they also implement security services. Usually abbreviated to ORB.
