The maximum distance at which an object may be detected when viewed in neither the horizontal nor the vertical plane. The oblique visibility is extremely important in aviation, both for maintaining the vertical separation of aircraft when unaided by instruments, and for detecting objects on or near the ground, particularly during a descent. Also known as slant visibility.
