This term usually is applied to the psychological tension that can occur in working environments, e.g., between senior management staff and industrial or office workers under their control and/or among workers competing for promotion or a bonus. Such “stress diseases” as peptic ulcer, hypertension, and skin eruptions are often attributed to this cause.
