A small family of marine fish that have an elongate body, long dorsal fin, and straight-edged tail fin. The teeth are fused together, like those of the Scaridae (parrotfish). Generally colourful fish, they tend to live in weedy patches in relatively shallow water. There are about eight species, found in the cooler waters of Australia and New Zealand.
