(b West Glamorgan, Wales, 26 Sept. 1970)
British-Nigerian choreographer. He trained at the London Contemporary Dance School and in 1994 became a founder member of the Richard Alston Dance Company, dancing with the company until 1998. In 1999 he formed the Henri Oguike Dance Company, choreographing all of its repertory. His works are noted for their musical awareness and for the daring range of his physical response to his chosen scores, which run the musical spectrum from Purcell to Ali Farka Toure. In addition to choreographing for his own company, Oguike has made works for Rambert, Phoenix Dance Theatre and the Holland Dance Festival. His works include: Front Line (mus. Shostakovich, 2002), Signal (mus. Taiko, drums, and others, 2004), Little Red (mus. Vivaldi, 2007), and Tread Softly (mus. Schubert, 2009).
