A term denoting the collection of Canonical Books which the Church shares with Judaism, together with (in Catholic and Orthodox Churches) certain other Jewish Books not now accepted as canonical by the Jews (the Apocrypha). Like the NT, the OT Books are regarded as inspired in the Church, which from the time of Marcion has defended them against attack.
