Quick Reference

A conserved family of interferon-induced proteins (EC 2.7.7.-) that are critical components of the innate immune response to viruses. They are encoded by OAS1, OAS2, OAS3 genes and the 2′–5′ oligoadenylate synthetase-like gene (OASL). When activated by double-stranded RNA they polymerize ATP which then activates a latent endoribonuclease L that will degrade viral and cellular RNAs. Mutations increase susceptibility to viral infection.
