The highest point in the range of hills E. of Jerusalem. It appears that Christ often went there. The traditional site of the Ascension was marked by a church known as the ‘Imbomon’, built before 378. Another 4th-cent. church, the ‘Eleona’, was built over the grotto where Christ was believed to have discoursed on the Last Things (Mk. 13).
