A type of retinal ganglion cell having a centre-surround receptive field consisting of a central ON area, in which stimulation tends to excite neural responses, and a surrounding OFF area, in which stimulation tends to suppress neural responses by lateral inhibition, so that the strongest response occurs when only the central region is stimulated.
