Little opera. Strictly a play with ov., songs, entr'actes, and dances, but the term has become synonymous with ‘light opera’, e.g. Offenbach's La Belle Hélène and Strauss's Die Fledermaus, and ‘musical comedy’, e.g. Coward's Bitter‐Sweet.
