optical isomers

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Molecular isomers that in solution cause the rotation of the plane of a beam of plane-polanzed light passed through the solution. The rotation is due to the asymmetry of the molecule. Molecules with this property are given the prefix d or l depending on whether the plane is rotated to the right (dextro) or to the left (levo, laevo).
