Quick Reference

The DNA sequence that marks the site where the pre-replication complex (pre-RC) will assemble and from which replication commences. The origin recognition complex (ORC) is a six-subunit complex which recruits cdc6 and cdt1 during interphase; phosphorylation by cyclin-dependent kinase releases these and allows DNA helicase to begin the process of replication. The proteins involved (ORC1–6) are highly conserved.
