(Verdi: Un ballo in maschera). (Also Oscar in Amer. vers.) Sop. Page, attendant on the King. Begs for mercy for Mme Arvidson, about to be exiled for sorcery. In all innocence, reveals which costume the King is wearing at the masked ball, thus enabling his secretary, Anckarstroem, to shoot him. Dying, the King falls into the faithful Oscar's arms. Arias: Volta la terra (‘The earth turns’); Saper vorreste di che si veste (‘You want to know how he is dressed’). Created (1859) by Pamela Scotti.
