Burst on to the Welsh scene in 1109 when he abducted Nest in a daring raid on the castle of her husband, Gerald of Windsor, at Pembroke. Nevertheless, he succeeded his father as ruler of Powys in 1111. In 1114 Henry I drove him into Gwynedd and forced him to submit. He spent 1115 in Normandy, and on his return was ambushed and killed near Carmarthen by supporters of Gerald, seeking revenge.
