ozone monitoring

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Measurements of background levels of ozone that have been collected over 20 years at sites a long way from pollution sources (including the South Pole, Barrow in Alaska, and Mauna Loa in Hawaii). These baseline surveys show that ozone concentrations vary through the day and from season to season. Efforts are being made through the International Geosphere‐Biosphere Programme to collect more information on changing ozone levels in the atmosphere and on the ways these might promote other changes in atmospheric chemistry.
