From age of 32 became popular and successful recitalist, especially in mus. of Chopin. Début USA 1891. Eccentric platform-manner, often making remarks to the audience in praise of himself or in disparagement of other pianists, and crawling under the pf. after a recital to look for the wrong notes he had played!
