n. a cytotoxic anticancer drug (see taxane). Administered by intravenous infusion, it is used mainly to treat ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and non-small-cell lung cancer. Typical side-effects include damage to bone marrow (see myelosuppression), loss of hair, and peripheral neuropathy. Trade names: Abraxane, Taxol.
