Quick Reference

John Palmer was born in Southwark, London and died in Islington on 26 June 1791. The son of an undertaker, he was educated for the Independent ministry under John Jennings and in 1755 became assistant to John Allen at the Presbyterian meeting house at New Broad Steet, becoming pastor on Allen's departure in 1759. The congregation declined and on the expiry of the lease in 1780 it dissolved altogether and Palmer retired to Islington.
