Quick Reference

Known for high-quality work and accurately printed books in learned languages. Among the newspapers he printed are the anti-Walpole Grub-Street Journal and the Walpole-subsidized Free Briton. Only the second part of his pioneering yet flawed General History of Printing (completed 1732) was written by himself; the first was the work of George Psalmanazar, and the third cobbled together from his notes by Psalmanazar and Thomas Birch.
