Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1832. In 1840 and 1842 he visited Russia to explore the possibilities of intercommunion between the Anglican and Orthodox Churches, and he did much to foster interest in the E. Churches in Britain. He became a RC in 1855.
