(Mozart: Die Zauberflöte). Sop. Daughter of the Queen of Night, she has been captured by Sarastro. Tamino falls in love with her portrait and sets out to rescue her. She accompanies him through various trials after which Sarastro allows them to be together. Aria: Ach, ich fühl's, es ist verschwunden (‘Ah, I feel ‘tis gone for ever’); duet (with Papageno): Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen (‘All men who can feel love’). Created (1791) by Anna Gottlieb (who, at the age of 12 in 1786, had created Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro).
