An organization developed by a pan-American group of scientists and engineers. The group envisaged the unification of space activities in the Americas and the peaceful uses of space exploration. Their efforts resulted in the Space Conferences of the Americas: Prospects in Cooperation, sponsored by the United Nations. Conferences were held in Costa Rica in March 1990, in Chile in April 1993, and in Uruguay in November 1996. The aim of these conferences is to encourage cooperation in the areas of science and technology for peaceful uses of space among the pan-American countries for the betterment of humanity.
