A peptide hormone (PP, PPY, pancreatic hormone, 36 aa), secreted by cells of the islets of Langherhans, that is involved in the regulation of exocrine pancreatic secretion and biliary tract motility. It may also be important in regulation of food intake. PPY2 inhibits secretion of enzymes and bicarbonate from the exocrine pancreas and has homology with peptide YY, one of the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family.
