The best-known tīrtha in Maharashtra, near the Karnataka border. Its Viṭhobā temple is the focus of quarterly pilgrimages by the Vārkarī Panth, whose presumed founder, Jñāneśvara and other sants are closely associated with the town. A major yātrā, undertaken by over half a million pilgrims, occurs each year during Āṣāḍha (June–July). See also Puṇḍalīka.
