Ballet in one act with choreography by Fokine, music by Schumann (arr. Tcherepnin), set by Doboujinsky, and costumes by Bakst. Premiered 10 Mar. 1913, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, with Karsavina and Fokine. Pierrot encounters a group of young women in a park and imagines they are butterflies. Fokine re-staged it for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes on 16 Apr. 1914 in Monte Carlo.
