A technique of logotherapy and behaviour therapy, used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder, in which the client or patient deliberately and repeatedly rehearses a habit or unwanted pattern of thought or behaviour, with the aim of developing a less fearful attitude towards it, gaining control over it, or bringing about its elimination or extinction (2). Also called negative practice. See also paradoxical therapy.
