A polymer of formaldehyde formerly used as a devitalization preparation in the pulpotomy procedure for a primary tooth. It penetrates through dentine and is gradually released as formaldehyde, which has a destructive effect on periodontal and bone tissues. The material is no longer advocated because of its associated toxicity and potential carcinogenicity. Trade name: Toxavit.
