Quick Reference

An antibody-induced anaemia (Donath–Landsteiner syndrome) caused by the Donath–Landsteiner autoantibody, a cold-reacting polyclonal IgG which reacts with P antigen. Antibody binding occurs at temperatures below normal body temperature and complement-dependent lysis follows after warming. Autoantibody production may be a result of infection with a parvovirus. Compare paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria.
