Activities which transform the experience of media consumption into the production of new texts, blurring the boundary between producers and consumers (Jenkins). Before the era of Web 2.0 this was particularly associated with a global network of fans of popular culture (e.g. for TV shows such as Star Trek) but it has subsequently also become associated with internet technologies such as YouTube which enable users to appropriate and refashion media content.
