Parsons joined Chatto & Windus as a typographer in 1928. Appointed junior partner in 1930, he was chairman 1954–75; during his tenure the firm published key figures in 20th-century literature, including Aldous Huxley and Rosamond Lehmann. Parsons had a close personal friendship with Leonard Woolf, whose Hogarth Press Chatto acquired in 1946. A respected poetry anthologist, Parsons was president of the Publishers Association 1957–9.
