In further, adult, and higher education students may choose, or be obliged for financial or other reasons, to study on a part‐time basis, often combining their studies with paid employment. This mode of attendance can apply to a very wide range of provision, ranging from adult education classes in leisure pursuits, to work‐based training, to postgraduate research at doctorate level. Much of teachers', head teachers', and other education professionals' in‐service continuing professional development is undertaken as part‐time study in the professionals' own time, usually in the evenings and at weekends while they continue their work during the week.
