Stretching of muscles, tendons, and ligaments produced by a stretching force other than that of the subject's own muscle actions (e.g. gravity or a force applied by a partner). Passive stretching can carry a movement beyond the normal active range, but there is an increased risk of tissue injury. Compare active stretching.
