The minimum mark which a candidate must achieve in order to be deemed to have successfully passed the assessment. It is commonly applied in assessments which are expressed in percentages. In such cases the candidate may need to achieve a mark of, for example, 40 or 50 per cent in order to pass. See also borderline; examination; pass grade.
