pass rate

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The proportion of candidates who succeed in passing an examination or other assessment. Pass rates can be used as a quality assurance indicator or performance indicator by an educational institution when evaluating the quality of teaching and learning or some other aspects of their provision. However, although pass rates may be presented as measures of success—for example, when schools publish their pupils' achievements in public examinations such as the General Certificate of Secondary Education—such bare numerical data do not necessarily indicate accurately how much learning has taken place, nor how much effort has gone into the teaching, since they cannot reflect disparities in the starting points of individuals or groups of learners.
