A semi-fluid, frequently medicated mixture. Filler paste is a thin easily displaced mixture of materials used to fill the root canal system. Polishing paste, used to smooth restorations and polish tooth surfaces, contains an abrasive such as pumice or diamond grit. Pressure-indicating paste is a thin, opaque, easily displaced material used to disclose areas of premature contact under restorations or prosthetic appliances. Prophylactic paste contains a number of abrasive materials with fluoride added to inhibit the caries process; it is used to aid the removal of tooth surface deposits and staining.
