A person who derives livelihood from grazing animals on pasture. The term applies to peasant herdsmen and wealthy landowners alike. Pastoralists may be permanently settled or, as in parts of Africa and Asia, migratory, moving from one locality to another as seasons change. Health risks, for example of zoonoses, vary with the locality.
