A textile technique used mainly for quilts and bed-covers; small patches of many different pieces are sewn together to produce a bright, multicoloured design. Of peasant origins, and carrying with it connotations of folk art, the technique enjoyed a great revival in popularity in the ‘swinging sixties’ and in hippy culture.
