Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Hereditary traits that are governed by genes or self-reproducing organelles solely contributed to the offspring by the male parent. For example, in male and female animal embryos the centrioles are derived from a progenitor centriole carried by the fertilizing sperm. Y-linked genes functioning in sex determination and spermiogenesis are inherited by males from their fathers. Contrast with maternal inheritance. See Y chromosome.
