founder of the Passionists. Paul Francis Danei came of an impoverished noble family. In 1720 a vision inspired him to found a religious order in honour of the Passion of our Lord; the first house was opened in 1737. He was a celebrated preacher and famous as a miracle-worker and spiritual director. Feast day, 19 Oct. (formerly, 28 Apr.).
