An unsuccessful plot to overthrow the Medici rulers of Florence. Their rivals, the Pazzi family, backed by Pope Sixtus IV, conspired to murder Giuliano and Lorenzo de Medici at High Mass in Florence Cathedral and to seize power. Although Guiliano was murdered as planned, Lorenzo escaped. The mob rallied to the Medici and seized and murdered the main conspirators.
