Traditionally, the appraisal process relies on the views of managers, but some organizations are recognizing the value of getting a wider range of opinions about an employee's performance, and so work colleagues are an important source of information. Of course, no organization is likely to rely entirely on peer appraisal, but it is used in conjunction with the line manager's evaluation of performance and the employee's own assessment of his or her performance ( self-appraisal).
