A motor skill that is dependent on high perceptual ability. Perceptual skills are particularly important in sports, such as tennis and basketball, in which the performer has to be able to adapt his or her skills to a changing environment. There are strong similarities between a perceptual skill, an externally paced skill, and an open skill. See habitual skill.
